So you have bad credit, millions do, and more importantly millions did.  Yes million of people have taken the steps necessary to improve their credit history, and credit ratings.

Before you start to improve your credit rating, it’s critical to find out why your credit is in the state that it is. If you don’t know why your credit is poor, then you must ask to see your credit reference file to find out.  At the UK Credit Card Centre we can help you in your quest to understand your credit score (Visit our Credit Help page).

Once you have a good understanding why your credit score is poor, or bad, there are a number of simple steps you can take to help improve your credit rating and start to rebuild credit history and score:

  • Make sure you are on the electoral roll. It only takes a few minutes to register with your local council and it will help to improve your credit score over time.
  • Always pay bills when they are due. This will begin to improve your credit history and score and will again give you an improved credit rating over time.
  • Do not apply for too much credit.  The number of times you apply for credit, either credit cards or loans can have a negative effect on your credit score. Every application for credit is logged into your credit file.  Too many credit applications in a short period of time may not help your credit rating.
  • The truth matters.  When applying for credit never give false or misleading details.  Always tell the truth.  If there are inconsistencies with past credit applications or details that are held on credit checking systems differ from your application it will affect your credit score.
  •  Start to build a credit history over time and when you check your credit reference file you should find an improved credit score.  Remember good credit will not occur over-night, but if you take the time to fix your credit blemishes, your score will improve over time.

So how can you improve credit ratings if you can’t get credit?  Credit card companies like our Vanquis and Capital One are specially designed for people with bad credit, or for people that have credit that needs help.  Even if you have been turned down by other credit card companies, you may be able to qualify for cards designed to improve credit.

As long as you manage the card properly, stay withn your credit limits and pay promptly, this is a good way to build credit history and to improve your credit rating.  Take the time to understand how to build good credit, and you will start down the road of financial freedom.  To find out more about cards designed for people with bad credit, Please visit our site UK Credit Card Centre for additional details.

Here's what you need to do…

You definitely don't need another credit card at this time because you've already stated that you've had all the bad credit credit cards and now you're getting turned down left & right. Furthermore, all those inquiries on your credit report are pulling your credit score down in the dumps even more.

Just slowww down for a minute here. It's gonna be a process and it ain't gonna happen over night that's for sure. You need to just concentrate on aggressively paying off your debt. AGGRESSIVELY is the keyword here. No time to play around. If you have to get a second job and get only 4 hours of sleep for the next 6 months to do it — then you gotta do whatcha gotta do!

As far as credit, as I stated earlier forget the credit cards you're not ready. You need more personal financial management training. A good way to do this is to get in a debit state of mind. Debit strictly uses your own funds that you deposit into your account as compared to Credit – which is borrowed money with all types of rates and fees! For a Good Prepaid Debit Card for your situation check out the one that I've been using for years – http://mysafeaccount.com

The great thing about this card is that it has a free Credit Builder feature where you can begin to build credit just by paying your normal monthly bills like rent, utilities, etc. This card has also recently added on a bad credit loan feature.

All the Best to You!

Yes, it doesn't matter what company you get the card from, only that you pay it and they report that you pay it. As for that previous answer mentioning to go to your bank and see if they can give you a credit card, normally I'd say that's a good idea, however, if you're bank is like Wachovia or WaMu, I'd think twice about that…

@janoleolsen dam! lol

@janoleolsen good luck getting 10,000 clients though.

Cmon boring…

type 'bad credit cards" on google. I was in your situation at on point, my first credit card was First Premier credit card (this CC is a rip-off but if you cannot get any other credit cards, they pretty much guarantee acceptance … because they will rob with with fees). Its a good card to start. Or you can apply for a secured credit card (maybe with your bank) and after a year or two you can apply for an unsecured card.

You should also pull your report and make sure its accurate. If you see things you think are incorrect, report them to the bureaus.

You only need a credit card to build your credit. thats what the report was stating.

Well, thats one way to get back at credit card companys; run them into dept!!!

Why not start a credit card bank? Charge 30% APR, get 10,000 clients with a balance of 5000 dollars each, and the bank makes 10,000 x 5000 x 30% = 15 million dollar annual profit! There will be expenses, but they won’t be 15 million… 1000 people investing 5000 each makes enough to start a bank. And if the bank makes a 10M profit, your 5000 dollars owns 0.1% of this. Typically a company with a 10M profit is worth 100M dollars, 0.1% of 100M is 100,000 dollars – a very good return on 5000 :)

Try First Premier Bank, HSBC or Orchard Bank, they are well known for helping people re-establish credit.

If you are denied you will have to start by secured credit card, go to the bank or credit union you do business with and ask them if they have one.

no there are plenty off cards that you can get with that score. in fact you are only about 30 point off getting a capital one card. First premier, orchard, credit one, salute, aspen are just some you can get. However these often have high fee associated with them. i.e you can get a card with first premier with a limit of 300 however you original credit would be 150 because of the fees they charge. I have one of each card and I am paying the fees and my score has gone up. I consider the fee the price I have to pay for being irresponsible and screwing my score up in the first place. http://creditcardwarehouseonline.com has a section for poor credit. you can apply there and get instantly approved. Good luck and remember to review the fees before you sign up for the card.

You investigate and see who will allow you to have a credit card that has a 50.00 dollar limit at first. You will have to put 50.00 dollars down in order to use this card. I think it may be called a secured credit card.
There are places that will help you get back in shape.
My son has done it twice.. He seems to need to learn the lesson again . but they will help you begin…

If you have bad credit the LAST thing you need is a credit card. Work on paying off the debt you have before incurring more!

Personally, unless it's a car, house, or education you shouldn't use credit. if you can't pay for it in cash, then you can't afford it.

Separate wants from needs.

But, if you really NEED one, student credit cards are usually easy to get. They have a lower limit. just go for your basic no annual fee, Visa or MasterCard. You can apply online or at most banks. Your bank may partner with a credit agency as well.
