Everyone needs a credit card. There are several types of credit cards for travelers. Chances are you already have a credit card or seven right now. They are better than cash, especially when you can get so many rewards and freebies out of them. Travel credit cards provide a great opportunity to earn free points that can be redeemed for airfare, hotels or cold hard cash. But not all cards are created equally.

No matter what credit card you get, whether it is a hotel, airline, or general rewards cards, the card should offer all of the following things: First, you should get a huge sign bonus. Most travel credit cards offer joining bonuses of 20,000 or more rewards/miles/points. Don’t join one that doesn’t offer you anything or it will take a long time to exchange rewards for hotels, cash, or airfare.

Moreover, make sure you get a travel credit card where you have the chance to receive additional points. Most of the time you just get one point for every dollar spent. The good cards give you extra points when you shop at special retailers or, if it is a brand card, with that one brand. This lets you earn extra points.

Finally, don’t forget to read the fine print. Are there are reward blackout dates, a fee structure, taxes, or other things the credit card company might try to sneak in there. Businesses don’t give away anything for free so for most cards they will try to sneak in some service charge. Compare the cards to make sure you pick one that doesn’t.

Remember that all good reward cards have fees. Fees are between $45-$80 dollars. If you are a frequent flier, you should think about getting a fee based card. These cards give you better rewards. You’ll be able to get rewards faster, you get better access to services and special offers, and better fraud protection.

So which card should you get? A hotel card? A general points card? An airline card? To answer that question, think about how you travel. Are you loyal to one airline? If you are on the road for business a lot, then getting a hotel card would be perfect for you. For those who only care about price and not brand loyalty, a general card would be best. However, by getting a general travel rewards card you would have access to a wider range of brands and companies than if you had a brand specific card

If you are on the road for business a lot, then getting a hotel card, like the Starwood card, would be perfect for you. You would get a lot of hotel points, free nights stays, discounts at other retailers, and you could also transfer those points to airlines for free flights.

For those who only care about price and not brand loyalty, a general card would be best. You will still get points for free flights and discounts as well as cash back but you wouldn’t get any of the elite benefits. However, by getting a general travel rewards card you would have access to a wider range of brands and companies than if you had a brand specific card.

No matter what you choose, be sure to get a card that is right for you. Do your research first and then choose the right travel card and start earning rewards get on the road quicker.

I applied for a capital one card with a 633 and got approved, but I wanted a low interest rate and applied for limited credit history because I've only had any credit about 4 years.

Well first, I might consider a hotel chain card as opposed to an Airline card. I've found over the past few years its been getting harder and harder to redeem airline miles for seats, as capacity has been reduced. That said, lets compare

Looking at it from a value standpoint…

The Amex has a $150 annual fee and you earn on average 1.25 miles per $. So to get the 25,000 miles for one free flight, you will need to run $20,000 through the card. Valuing a free flight at $500, that means you will get $350 value for the first $20,000 you run thru. (I leave one shot perks out of the equation, as well as stuff like BOGO tickets)

The MC probably has a lower fee, I can't tell from the site, AND you don't need to pay in full each month like Amex. Rewards are a little better too, as you get 2.0 points per mile on charges for CO flights. You also get 2 club passes per YEAR and two travel certs without any additional purchase. A nice perk. It would also take only around $16,000 to earn a cap controlled flight, but around $38,000 in purchases to earn an anytime flight (which I suspect is what you will need more than most.

Using the Hilton card as an example, you rack up 2 points per dollar spent (no annual fee). Not a lot of perks tho, but $10,000 in purchases will get you a free room at many hiltons. Where Hilton shines is you get 3 points per charge at hilton hotels, which means once you hit elite you can really rack up the points.

Summary:

If you find yourself staying with the same hotel chain a lot due to corporate or personal preferences, I find a card for that hotel provides better bang for the buck. If your sleeping arrangements are 'whatever is closest', I think the continental MC is the best choice, depending on the fee.

You've thought through your life situation very clearly. You have mastered a fine craft that can't be outsourced, that everybody needs, and that can put bread on your table and money in your retirement account whenever you choose. Most college graduates can't say that.

I really admire your clarity about this, and the way you wrote it up. It's easy to hear the arguments in your family through your answers to them.

If what you've written here isn't an effective explanation, what is?

Are you actually asking your family members to smack their foreheads and say, "what was I thinking? What kind of dope am I, anyway? of COURSE college isn't right for you!" It's hard for people to admit they're wrong, especially in the area of deeply held values like education.

Just be happy you don't come from a family of Hindus and have to explain to them that you've become Zoroastrian. Good luck.

CARD TWO is much better! The interest rate is much lower! And you can use it anywhere (with the ability to earn rewards). Of course, you might want to compare other reward offers too (before you decide). You can find a complete list here:

Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK!

Don't marry either. Neither of them are suited for you, and you'll end up unhappy eventually whichever one you choose… which isn't fair to you OR to them.

There are more than two available men in the world. Go find an option 3.

Are you seriously asking us to solve YOUR college assignment?! In its entirety?!

Here's what you do: try thinking of solving this by hand without the use of a computer. And then split the problem into smaller ones, which you DO know how to code.

Seems clear enough college education is not for you. The only realistic possibility is to take an 4yr Bachelor's "Applied Sciences" degree in some skilled manual occupation, which could be anything for Aircraft Engine Maintenance to Welding. No need to apologize for that, and pay is decent.

I am a paramedic and have been relocated to many job sites both within the United States as well as overseas. Once while in Ghana, Africa I had my mail forwarded to my company, to the attention of my supervisor who was happy to collect it and send it to me once a month upon my request. This worked well, but there was some delay.

I have used PO Box Services (google it and see what you come up with) and was satisfied with them. You establish an account, they assign you a P.O. Box address, you change your address to that address and they forward you your mail when you request it. It can be pricey depending on your needs, but most companys let you pick and choose what services you want.

You can put a "hold" with your post office and they will collect your mail for a specified time for you to pick up. I did this once but ran into difficulties when my job stay extended their "holding" period.

Today, I give the key to a trusted friend who collects my mail from the post office once a week. I email him and have him send it to the hotel I am staying at. It works out well. He is complemented that I would entrust him to collect my mail, and I can rest assured that he will likely keep better track of my mail than I would for fear of breaking my trust. I always take him and his wife out for dinner when in town as a thank you for the favor although they really are glad to help. You will be surprised how complemented your friend will be that you ask them for such a favor. Its a win, win situation and much better than relying on unknown PO Box firms.

Enjoy the sites as you journey, the food, new friends and all the money you'll be making!
